Can an intervention for alcohol and gambling be successful if the addicted person has kept the drinking part of his life a secret and the family members have not seen the drinking behaviors? The gambling is obvious, bank withdrawls, withdrawls from casinos, missing money and missing chunks of time. The alcohol use has been while he was out of town on business or the other family members were out of town. This person has gone through treatment 20 years ago and has implied to everyone around him that he is still living a sober lifestyle. He has compartmentalized the drinking part of his life and the drinking friends. Its unknown if there are any issues with the employer, as he keeps that aspect of his life separate from the family as well. The progression has been obvious to me (wife)over time, watching his behaviors go from dry drunk to active drinking. I have not seen him drink, but have proof he is. He has been denying alcohol usage up to the point that he was "caught" and now claims he has no problem i am just "putting him in a box" - that he is normal. The two children who would participate are adults and live out of town, they agree that the gambling is indeed an issue but they are not sure about the alcohol. Is it unrealistic to do an intervention at this time? Should I wait until there are more negative consequences in his Life? PGarcia
